Seasoned local politicians and newcomers have started raising money for advertising campaigns, shooting political barbs, appearing at neighborhood meetings, and are sure to put themselves into the many local events including the upcoming 4th of July parade. A new candidate is entering the political race on July 3rd, that wants to put the focus on want can we do together to make the City of Annapolis better for all of its residents. This new candidate is going to stand out from the rest with these promises: · Not to say anything negative about either party during the campaign · To run as an independent, with a grass roots campaign · Encourage people to donate money during the campaign to helping his constituents, instead of himself. · To be out on the town daily to meet and greet constituents · To be welcoming to all The candidate is a life long resident of Annapolis, who understands life on both sides of the creek, living in both Eastport and the Historic District. He came to Annapolis with nothing and today resides and works daily to keep Annapolis the friendly town that it is. The Candidate is known to most in Annapolis on a first name basis as “Onyx”. Onyx came to live in Annapolis at the SPCA in Annapolis at just a few months of age, without a collar or nametag to his name. Upon his adoption at the age of five months, he moved across Spa Creek to the Historic District of Annapolis. For the past year and a half Onyx has worked daily at ARTFX gallery, usually sitting in the doorway ready to greet anyone who walks down West Street and wants to take a break from the daily grind. His goal in life is to bring a smile to the face of all who pass by. Onyx is kicking off his mayoral campaign on July 3rd during the First Sunday Arts event on West Street. Three animal rescue groups are coming to spend the afternoon at The First Sunday Arts event in front of ARTFX gallery with Onyx; The Anne Arundel County SPCA, the Calvert County Humane Society and German Shepard Rescue. All of the groups are bringing plenty of four legged friends looking for good homes. Onyx will also be releasing his first limited edition “Onyx for Mayor” T-shirt during the day with profits going to local Animal Rescue Groups. ARTFX gallery is getting in the spirit of event with an art show during July by Marjorie Weiss, called “Mans Best Friend” featuring artwork of our favorite dogs and hosting several fund raisers at ARTFX gallery to support area animal rescue groups. Other events during the day include music by the Annapolis Junction Big Band, The Unified Jazz Ensemble, outdoor art market and evening art receptions. On July 4th Onyx will be appearing in the Annapolis 4th of July parade along with many other area dogs ready to leave their mark on Annapolis. | 8/31/05 Salisbury's Mayor endorses Onyx for Annapolis Mayor Mayor, a tail-waggin, croud pleasin', beagle mix owned by former Salisbury City Council Vice-president Michael Day knows something about politics. "Mayor went door to door with me on my campaign visits and she always got the endorsement, even if I didn't." When Mayor heard of his colleague, Onyx's bid for political office, this Mayor immediately sent her endorsement. Day has a history of naming his pets for local personalities and scine Mayor became his comppanion during his time in the political arena, Mayor became both the title and name of the friendly little black and white pooch. Day is now the Main Street coordinator of both the Berlin and Pocomoke City and it was ARTFX's marketing promotion and support of the Anne Arundel SPCA that made for a unique package that appealed to Day. But Mayor didn't need such inducements. "Major just wants to make sure Onyx wins so that she can attend and try to fetch the inaugural ball," said Day. |

| 10/23/05 Onyx attends his first protest rally to save Ginger a working wog at the Museum Store. Fellow working dog "Ginger" has worked as a greeter at the Museum store by the city dock of Annapolis for the past six years greeting customers and watching over our city dock. The Annapolis Historic Foundation that runs the store announces that starting November 10th, she is banished to the back yard of the building and will not be allowed to be in the store or in front of the store to greet customers. The reason they say is the store is not for locals but for tourists and tourists dont like dogs. Onyx disagrees and sees tourists everyday that say they like dogs, he even mentioned the Loews Hotel encourages tourists to bring their pets with them when they travel. to save Ginger please call the Historic Annapolis Foundation at 410-990.4709 or email them at info@annapolis.org |
